Camp Bondsteel is the main base for the U.S. Army under the Kosovo Force (KFOR). KFOR is a NATO directed international force responsible for establishing a safe and secure environment in Kosovo. NATO entered Kosovo in 1999 under a United Nations mandate. Kosovo is a UN dministered province of Serbia, located in the eastern part of the province. Camp Bondsteel serves as the NATO headquarters for KFOR's multinational task force east. The nearest major city is Pristina, the current capital of Kosovo.
The post is comprised of mostly dirt roads and temporary buildings, however there is a post exchange, fitness center, movie theater, and massage center available. Additionally dining facilities include a Burger King, Taco Bell, Anthony’s Pizza and a cappuccino bar, as well as several concessionaires.
