Directions and Parking

The UMUC office is located in the Patton Education Center in Building 106, room 114.

To find our location, please take Autobahn 5 and to the Heidelberg/Schwetzingen exit. Once you exit the A5 you will be on the German Federal Highway B535 (Speyer Strasse). Signs for Patrick Henry Village will appear at this junction. Please follow the city signs to Heidelberg Mitte and maintain a straight orientation on Speyer Strasse (B535) for about two miles. You will pass through about four traffic lights before you come to the traffic light in front of Patton Barracks. Patton Barracks is located on the right side of Speyer Strasse and there is a small, white sign indicating its location on the right side of the road. At the traffic light, turn right and make another immediate right onto the base. Once you pass through the inspection area, turn left and follow the road around. You will come to a one story brick building on the right side, make a right there (this building contains MWR marketing). Contiue following the road around as it veers to the left. At the next stop sign intersection, go straight. Follow the road one block and turn left. The building on the left side is Bldg 106. The education center is located on the ground floor and the UMUC office is located in room 114. Parking is available on the north side the building.

To find classes held at Tompkins Barracks, near Heidelberg and Mannheim, please follow Autobahn 656 until the Friedricksfeld exit. At the end of the exit, please see the road sign for "Schwetzingen" and turn in the direction the arrow indicates for "Schwetzingen." Continue straight on this two-lane road through the countryside for about two kilometers. Tompkins Barracks is viewable on the left side from this road. Turn left onto the base. Once on base, after you have passed through the inspection area, follow the priority road until you come to a stop sign. At the stop sign turn left. The education center is located at the end of this street on the left side, in Bldg 4236.

Computer Labs

The UMUC sponsored computer lab has 12 computers available for student use. Each computer provides access to the Internet, as well as a word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software. The computer lab is accessible Mon-Fri, 0800-1800.

Testing Services

Placement tests for English and math courses and proctored exams for distance education courses are available through your local UMUC office. Please contact the field representative to schedule an appointment.

Additional Site Information

Patton Barracks is a small Army post with a military police company, a transportation unit, and the Central NATO forces. On-post dining facilites include Subway and a Shoppette. There is no lodging available on Patton Barracks, however lodging is available at the Heidelberg Guest House on Patrick Henry Village, about ten minutes drive from Patton Barrakcs.
